LOS ANGELES--Just a few months since being formally introduced as the 31st NHL team, the Vegas Golden Knights took home the Newest Hockey Team ESPY at tonight's ESPY awards. The Knights beat out the Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets and Nashville Predators for the honor. Owner Bill Foley, who accepted the award, got choked up while making his speech. “Six months ago, we were not even an NHL team. And today, we are a new NHL team!” he announced, holding up the trophy to the cheers of the crowd. “We are not just a new team, but the newest team. The newest team in the NHL. And that means something to me. Columbus, Carolina, Nashville – those are all relatively new franchises, but nothing like us. We deserve this trophy. The voters got it right.” At the end of his speech, a defiant Foley guaranteed that the Golden Knights would win the award again next year.
