INDIANAPOLIS--According to a report in the Indianapolis Star, the Indianapolis Colts are suspicious that the Patriots might be spying on them in anticipation of their big matchup this weekend. The suspicion was aroused by a sighting of the entire Patriots coaching staff driving into the team’s practice facility in golf carts, fanning out across the facility, and taking pictures and video of the team’s practice.

A source within the organization called the incident “a little curious.”

“It did raise some eyebrows around here,” said the source. “They were all there – Belichick, McDaniels, the defensive coordinator guy – and they were very clearly and blatantly taking pictures and filming. At one point McDaniels asked the offense to run the play again so he could get a better shot. I don’t know. You hate to be cynical, but I just have a weird hunch they were up to something nefarious.”

The Patriot coaches were there for approximately 90 minutes, said the source. At one point, a Colts staffer approached Belichick and asked for an autograph.

“That was Chuck, our assistant trainer,” the source. “He’s from New England and thought it would be cool to meet Belichick. To his credit, Belichick was very gracious and signed the autograph and even took a picture for the kid. You hear all the time what a shady asshole he is, but this shows he has another side, too.”

The Patriot coaches were there for approximately 90 minutes. When they were done, they hopped in their golf carts and drove away, some right across the field, causing the Colts to pause their practice.

“Talk about disrespect!” said running back Frank Gore. “They drove right through our huddle on the way out. One of them ran over my foot!  I’m not even going to be able to play this weekend now. It’s ok, though. We’re a no excuses team. If we lose on Sunday it will be because we failed to execute, not because the Patriots have pictures and video of every play in our playbook.”

For now, there are no plans to alert NFL security or file a formal complaint.  In fact, the Colts coaching staff is down playing the incident and trying to keep their players focused on the task at hand.

“I think people are making more of this than there really is,” said head coach Chuck Pagano. “The media likes to run with stuff like this, but really, it was just a bunch of football coaches hanging out and taking pictures. Were they spying? Who knows? Were they doing something illegal? Again, you don’t know, and you can’t jump to conclusions. But the thing I keep coming back to is this: we haven’t changed our game plan in years. Why would they even need to film?”
